Late Night Movie Review – More Cold Open Than Sweeps

Late Night tackles the rare big screen subject of a prime time talk show. A queen of comedy is playing out the string as her long-running chat series continues a ratings slump. Even the comedian's husband acknowledges that the show is bad. The threat of cancellation forces the host to shake up her writing staff with a little diversity.

The 10 Most Essential Black Keys Songs

The Black Keys are about to release their ninth album. The record, Let’s Rock, is the band’s first since 2014. Before Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach add another hit LP to their discography, here are the 10 most essential Black Keys songs:

American Masters: Ted Williams PBS Documentary (2018)

There are few athletes more controversial than Ted Williams. The Splendid Splinter was a generational lightening rod. He was a two time war hero, an enemy of the press and the fans, philanthropist, and curmudgeon. He was also one of the best hitters ever. Avett Brothers Phillies Postgame Concert

There is always the potential to see something you have never seen before at a baseball game. It could be a statistical anomaly that hasn't occurred since 1908. Saturday's game was my first Phillies postgame concert at Citizens Bank Park. A new-ish regular promotion, the gigs are a fun and relaxed way to spend a Saturday.

Deadwood: The Movie Gives Fans Closure

After a 13-year hiatus, Deadwood returned to HBO in the form of a film. The third season ended with some closure in 2006, but the lack of a series finale loomed over an otherwise-fantastic show's legacy. One of the best written shows to grace television brought back the vast majority of actors from the original series for a last hurrah. Finally, Deadwood: The Movie is a bittersweet conclusion to David Milch's Western.

Review: Booksmart Is A R-Razor Sharp High School Comedy

Booksmart is a hilarious high school comedy that will fly under the radar as one of the underappreciated releases of the summer. That is unfortunate. It wields razor sharp wit and features great performances from leads and supporting cast alike. The writing is flat-out funny and squeezes every ounce of adult humor from its R rating.
